Revolutionary Weekend

This weekend I had the opportunity to go up to Phoenix and be part of the NACCS (National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies) conference that was held at Arizona State University. The day consisted of Professors, MEChA, and the one and only Rudy Acuna. I had the honor to meet one of the biggest supporters of the Chican@ movement and author of many books,

Me, Rudy Acuna and Danile Montoya
As a member of UNIDOS, I had the chance along with Daniel Montoya to speak on a panel about the events that occurred in April and in May. After the Q&A many young adults came up to us seeking answers to their questions. For me, it is always rewarding hearing the voice of other people who want to know how to make a difference. It is also very rewarding when I see a community who supports the youth movement.

In case anyone else is interested in helping here are a couple ways:

Go to Board meetings:
Especially if you have a child, sibling or any person in the Tucson Unified School District, this is very crucial. Education in Arizona is not a priority, since there are immense budget cuts to support other unimportant causes.

Read the news and be updated:
So much goes on in in a state that is know for its harsh Anti-Migrant law SB 1070. Knowing what is going on can spark some interest in helping out the movement.

Spread UNIDOS story around:
Although UNIDOS made the news nation wide, there are still a lot of youth out there that have no idea what is going on. If you are a teacher, inform the students of what has been going on. It will empower them to take a stand. Having more community come together builds up more resistance and power.
